Current NDP MLA Joe Ceci tweeted selfies from within a counter protest to the weekly Calgary Freedom Rally. The counter protest’s goal is to “reclaim” the publicly owned streets from the marchers. Signs included false claims that the Freedom Rally is “white supremicist” and are “against public health care”.
The counter protest attempted to block the street that was meant to be used by the march but were pushed back by bicycle mounted Calgary police. This allowed the larger Freedom Rally to continue.
Newly elected mayor Jyoti Gondek appeared to threaten the Freedom Rally with “enforcement” as opposed to “crowd control”
