With the declaration of a health emergency in Alberta and the passing of City of Calgary Bylaw 65M2021, I thought it was time to visit Without Papers Pizza. An Inglewood restaurant, it can be found on the second floor of a building on 9th Avenue in Calgary in that hip neighborhood.
The reason I chose to visit this spot, as opposed to any other establishment, is that they’ve made news recently with certain Instagram posts … pictured here (more below).
The first thing you notice walking in the door is a mandatory mask sign just before you find the stairs. Seems like a safe place. When I got to the top of the stairs, I noticed a man wearing a mask waiting for me at top. Seems like a safe place. Expecting a confrontation, I was surprised when the gentleman asked, “What can I do for you?”
“Can I seat myself”, I ask.
“Yeah, go for it”, I was told.
I ordered, ate and paid for my meal. All rather uneventful. All employees were masked at all times. My fellow 11 patrons also observed current mask rules – wearing one away from their table, not wearing one while seated.
Thanks for the hospitality.
